Pebble Hill kids

(and teachers too)

Welcome to PEBBLE HILL KIDS!  Here you will find activities created especially for children and supported by PHP educational materials. For those kids who are planning a trip to Pebble Hill, check out the new kids tour book called Young Ramblers Ramble [This pdf file can be downloaded to your computer and printed for your convenience]. Also, if you will read what it says on the bottom of the first page, there is a special offer for those kids who are 10 and younger.

Have you visited the stables?

There is a great article in the fall issue of The Pebble Hill Rambler that gives you an incredible amount of information on the Pebble Hill stable complex. The article is kid-friendly--that is kid-friendly for young kids and old kids alike.

Have you visited the Ark?

In the summer edition of The Pebble Hill Rambler there is an article title "Have you Visited the Ark?" You can find this issue of the Rambler under the archives section on the Pebble Hill Rambler web page. This is your opportunity to learn about the unusual structure that is located near the large pond on Pebble Hill.

Activities for Kids [PowerPoint driven]  Be patient, they take a while to start

Included here is a PowerPoint presentation that gives you even more information about the stable complex and includes many pictures.

Learn to draw a horse following our three easy steps and then color your horse to look like one of Pebble Hill’s big pullers.

Play a game of “What Do You Know?” with a friend. “What Do You Know” is the PHP game based on the TV show “Jeopardy.”

The link to the Kid's Page and these PowerPoint activities will be archived inside the fall edition of The Rambler incase you want to watch them at a later date.

To learn more about the Ark, visit this Flash presentation. When the presentation has finished, click the Back button in your browser to return to this page.

For a simple science lesson, watch this Flash presentation about the Pump House. Be sure to read this document also, which explains the Pump House system in more detail.

In the Spring 2010 edition of the Rambler emagazine there is an article about the log cabin school house at Pebble Hill Plantation and the type of design called "dog-trot" that was used for this structure. Click here to see a short Flash movie telling about the log cabin school, an explanation about the dog trot style, and how log cabins were built. When the Flash movie is completed, click the back button in your browser or exit the tab in your browser to return here.

For Summer 2010, a new game has been added called "Miss Pansy Walks the Dog." Download the pdf HERE. All materials and instructions needed for the game are within the pdf document. Have Fun!!!

For the Younger Set. . .

Learn to play Ark Cards. Just download your cards, the Ark game board and the game instructions.

Visit Pebble Hill

Pebble Hill offers many areas of interest for children. Children of all ages are invited to bring their families and explore our grounds. Plan a picnic by the pond, pet the horses, wander through the garden maze, and enjoy a great day outdoors.

Student Groups

Organized student group tours can be arranged and tailored to suit the ages of the students. Students must be 6 years or older to tour the Main House. Maps are furnished for self-guided tours of the grounds. Wagon rides (weather permitting) and picnics can be included. Contact the Jed Wall in the Museum Office (229-227-5385) or email him for details and special rates.

In addition to the PowerPoint and Flash presentations linked to this page, a Pebble Hill representative is always available to come to your school to present a program about the plantation. This overview is especially beneficial for groups planning field trips to Pebble Hill. Contact the Barbara Cohenour, the Museum Manager at this email address: bcohenour@pebblehill.com or 229-227-5382.
