Tea Party
Pebble Hill Plantation’s second Tea Party, held on Saturday, May 8th, was a big success with over 40 guests in attendance. Dressed in their “tea party best,” young ladies came with their mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and other special friends for a morning of tea party fun.
When the guests arrived, they were seated on the front porch of the Main House. They enjoyed refreshments that included chicken salad sandwiches, teapot-shaped strawberry butter sandwiches, ham and cheese tea biscuits, flower-shaped cheese straws, fruit skewers, lemon butter cookies, lemon squares, and party cupcakes.
The program consisted of a brief etiquette lesson, information about Elisabeth (Pansy) Ireland Poe, Pebble Hill’s last owner, and the reading of “Tea with Ruby” by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.
Later guests adjourned to the front lawn for crafts. The girls enjoyed making flower arrangements, decorating bookmarks, and personalizing coffee cups for Mother’s Day gifts. A game of toss, featuring marbles and high-heeled shoes, was a popular activity, along with paper dolls, and a tea-themed match game.
